FAQ on Preventative Maintenance

The old rule was you should change your oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles. This is no longer the recommended interval especially for gasoline engines, and if you still stick to that schedule you’re wasting money and using an unnecessary amount of oil. With the newer synthetic oils most vehicles can go at least 5,000 miles between oil changes. The best way to determine when your oil needs changing is to consult the owner’s manual of your vehicle.
Oil change intervals for medium and heavy-duty vehicles are based on a number of factors. In addition to the recommendations in the owner’s manual ,we look at the type of use the vehicle is used for (long trips vs. short ones with lots of stopping and starting), how often the vehicle is driven (does it sit for long periods of time), and the kind of driving (city vs. open highways). We look at these factors for each individual vehicle in order to create a maintenance schedule.
